Bill Ramey/AiPi entity, Stasit, smartphone patent found invalid
On August 22, 2024, the CRU issued a Notice of Intent to issue a reexamination certificate canceling all claims of U.S. Patent 8,855,723, owned and asserted by Stasit, LLC, an NPE and Bill Ramey/AiPi entity. The ‘723 patent is directed to smartphones that can mask notifications of incoming calls and text messages for certain unauthorized numbers during certain times and only logging a record of those temporally unauthorized communications on a password protected log, while allowing incoming communications from authorized numbers to be handled normally (regular notification and logging on the general log). The ‘723 patent was the sole patent asserted against Apple, Meta Platforms, Google, LG, Samsung, and HTC.
