Fourth OptiMorphix networking patent challenged

On May 24, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 7,987,285, owned by OptiMorphix, Inc. The ‘285 patent is generally directed to adaptive bitrate media streaming (e.g., by privileging audio or video bitrate, or in response to current network conditions). It is asserted against Microsoft, Cisco, Amazon, and Google.

On May 23, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 7,031,314, owned by OptiMorphix, Inc. The ‘314 patent is generally directed to providing differentiated services within a network communication system at a service module. It is asserted against Microsoft, Broadcom, Cisco, Oracle, Amazon, VMWare, and Google.

Intellectual Ventures cloud networking patent challenged

On May 22, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 7,949,785, owned by Intellectual Ventures II LLC. The ‘785 patent relates to a system of communication via virtual networks. It has been asserted against JP Morgan Chase Bank, Liberty Mutual Holding Company, and Comerica. The ‘785 patent is purportedly related to open source container orchestration systems for automating computer applications, such as Kubernetes.

VDPP stitched image patent challenge instituted

On May 22, 2024, two months after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 9,426,452, owned and asserted by VDPP LLC, an NPE. The '452 patent is generally directed to image processing to form a combined image from multiple video streams. It has been asserted over 20 times with active cases against Mazda, Motorola Mobility, Mercedes-Benz, NEC, HP Inc., Razer, Honda, Ricoh, GM, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Ford.

DynaIP entity WirelessWerx IP geotracking patent found invalid

On May 22, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a final rejection of the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 7,317,927 owned by WirelessWerx IP LLC, an NPE and Dynamic IP Deals LLC entity. The '927 patent relates to location tracking and has been asserted in over 20 litigations against companies like Apple, Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, MapleBear, FedEx, DHL Express, and Life360.
