Another Stingray IP Wi-Fi patent challenged

On January 16, 2025, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 7,440,572, asserted by Stingray IP Solutions, an NPE and entity of Acacia Research Corporation. The ‘572 patent relates to a secure wireless LAN device that encrypts both address and data information. It is currently being asserted against Leedarson IoT, Schlage Lock, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company, and is being challenged in a declaratory judgment (DJ) by Aidot.

Acacia entity, Stingray IP, Wi-Fi patent challenge instituted

On January 15, 2025, two months after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 7,224,678, asserted by Stingray IP Solutions, an NPE and entity of Acacia Research Corporation. The ‘678 patent relates to detecting an intrusion in a network system. It is currently being asserted against Leedarson IoT, Schlage Lock, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Vivint, and Allegion.

Wrinkl messaging patent challenge instituted

On December 31, 2024, two months after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 11,973,731, owned and asserted by Wrinkl, Inc. The ‘731 patent relates to a multi-pane group messaging interface. It has been asserted against Slack Technologies and Salesforce.

Quest entity Taasera cyber security patent found invalid

On December 23, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a notice of intent to issue a reexamination certificate canceling all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 7,673,137, owned by Taasera Licensing LLC, an NPE and a Quest Patent Research Corporation entity.  The ‘137 patent relates to methods of computer security using program validation. The patent has been asserted against several entities including Fortinet, Trellix, Palo Alto Networks, Trend Micro, Check Point, and CrowdStrike

Acacia entity Atlas Global Technologies Wi-Fi patent found invalid

On December 23, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a final rejection of all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 10,153,886, owned and asserted by Atlas Global Technologies, LLC, an NPE and Acacia Research entity. The ‘886 patent is generally directed to an uplink transmission scheme for acknowledgements to reduce or eliminate redundant acknowledgements and is asserted against a Wi-Fi standard, 802.11ax. The patent had been asserted against Samsung, Arcadyan, Acer, D-Link, OnePlus, and Zyxel.
