Facet traffic recognition patent challenge instituted

On July 15, 2024, three weeks after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 9,671,328, owned and asserted by Facet Technology Corp., an NPE. The '328 patent relates to a system of assessing and classifying road signs depicted in a video stream. It has been asserted against General Motors, TomTom, Mobileye Global, and Here Global.

Rothschild entity, Mobile Health, fitness monitor patent challenge instituted

On July 15, 2024, three weeks after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 11,468,984, owned and asserted by Mobile Health Innovative Solutions, an NPE and Leigh M. Rothschild entity. The ’984 patent relates to a mobile unit that analyzes a user's load levels. It has been asserted against health tracking technology by companies such as Google, Samsung, and Withings.

GEVC AV1 patent challenged

On July 3, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 10,574,982, owned by GE Video Compression, LLC. The ‘982 patent generally relates to encoding and decoding video images using wedgelet, or binary mask, patterns. This patent has been designated essential to SISVEL’s AV1 pool, and the filing is a part of Unified’s ongoing efforts in its SEP Video Codec Zone.

OptiMorphix MPEG-DASH/H.264 patent challenge instituted

On July 3, 2024, five weeks after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination on the fourth OptiMorphix owned patent, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 7,987,285. The ‘285 patent is generally directed to adaptive bitrate media streaming (e.g., by privileging audio or video bitrate, or in response to current network conditions). It is asserted against products associated with H.264/AVC for video, AAC for audio, and products that use MPEG-DASH from Microsoft, Cisco, Amazon, and Google.

Nostromo location-based patent challenged

On June 27, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 8,559,970, owned and asserted by Nostromo, LLC, an NPE. The '970 patent is generally directed to providing location-based information and notifications to a user's device, based on location, user preference settings, and conditions for triggering the information delivery. It is being asserted against ADT, Resideo, and Ecobee.
