On April 9, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 11,455,678, owned and asserted by DKR Consulting, LLC. The ‘678 patent relates to the generation and distribution of widgets for commerce over the internet. The patent has been asserted against Shopify.

A recent article discussed how Open Invention Network (OIN), The Linux Foundation, Microsoft and a growing list of companies have renewed their support of Unified’s Open Source Zone for the fifth consecutive year.
Created to protect open source from invalid assertions by NPEs and patent trolls, the Open Source Zone has successfully invalidated over 50 NPE-owned patents that threatened innovation in open source technologies. Unified Patents added a new PATROLL contest, with a $2,000 cash prize, seeking prior art on at least claim 1 of U.S. Patent 11,516,520, owned by Laixion Network Technology Ltd. The ‘520 patent relates to a data sharing system, a share list processing method, and a non-transitory machine-readable medium for data sharing. It has been asserted against Meta Platforms.

Unified Patents added a new PATROLL contest, with a $2,000 cash prize, seeking prior art on at least claim 1 of U.S. Patent 6,574,239, owned by Communication Interface Technologies LLC, an entity of Equitable IP Corporation. The ‘239 patent relates to client-server computing architectures and communication techniques. More particularly, the invention relates to a system whereby a mobile worker and a central server may maintain a virtually continuous connection without the need to maintain a physical connection continuously. The patent has been asserted over 70 times but most recently against CVS, Staples, Bridgestone, Petco, Kohler, Louis Vuitton, and others.

The ‘780 patent has been asserted against IBM, Cisco, and Fortinet. The ‘601 patent has been asserted against Palo Alto Networks and Cisco.
