$2,000 for Texas Secure Authentication network patent prior art

Unified Patents added a new PATROLL contest, with a $2,000 cash prize, seeking prior art on at least claim 1 of U.S. Patent 7,873,682, owned and asserted by Texas Secure Authentication LLC, an NPE. The ‘682 patent relates to a system and method to enhance information utility and intelligence on digital networks. It features the creation and manipulation of information containers with dynamic registers. The patent has been asserted against First National Bank of Central Texas, Frost Bank, Guaranty Bank & Trust, WatchGuard Technologies, Eagle Eye Network, and Fifth Third Bank.

$1,000 awarded for Distefano Website Innovations internet patent prior art

Unified is pleased to announce PATROLL crowdsourcing contest winner, Calvin Zhong, who was awarded $1,000 for his prior art submissions on U.S. Patent 11,763,316, owned by Distefano Website Innovations, LLC, an NPE. The patent relates generally to creating and posting web pages to the internet, and more specifically, to a method for more easily developing web pages through the use of a graphical user interface. It has been asserted against ByteDance.

Anonymous Media ad monitoring patent challenge instituted

On October 28, 2024, less than three months after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 8,756,622, owned by Anonymous Media Research Holdings, LLC. The ‘622 patent relates to media monitoring and measurement systems. The patent has been asserted against Samsung and Roku.

Helios MPEG-DASH patent found invalid

On October 30, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a notice of intent to issue a reexamination certificate canceling all claims of U.S. Patent 10,362,130, owned and asserted by Helios Streaming LLC, an NPE and entity of Ideahub, Inc. The ‘130 patent is relevant to systems that are compliant with the MPEG-DASH standard; its claims are directed to providing adaptive HTTP streaming services using metadata of media content to ensure smooth playback. It has been asserted against Crackle, Starz, Showtime, Vudu, Fandango, Warner Brothers, and HBO.

Acacia entity, Stingray IP, Wi-Fi patent challenged

On October 31, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 7,224,678, asserted by Stingray IP Solutions, an NPE and entity of Acacia Research Corporation. The ‘678 patent relates to detecting an intrusion in a network system. It is currently being asserted against Leedarson IoT Technology, Schlage Lock Company, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company.
