Intellectual Ventures cloud application management patent challenged

On April 30, 2025, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 8,332,844, owned by Intellectual Ventures II LLC. The ‘844 patent is directed to distributing application environments to a computer nodes using a “root/leaf” system of application environment storage. It has been asserted against Nationwide, Liberty Mutual, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Comerica, JP Morgan, and the Bank of New York Mellon. The patent is also involved in a declaratory judgement action filed by Assurant.

$2,000 for L4T Innovations media content patent prior art

Unified Patents added a new PATROLL contest, with a $2,000 cash prize, seeking prior art on at least claim 1 of U.S. Patent 11,189,321, owned and asserted by L4T Innovations LLC, an NPE. The '321 patent describes an event marking device designed to facilitate the identification and retrieval of media related to notable events. By marking the time of such events, users can easily access relevant recordings without sifting through extensive footage. It has been asserted against Ecobee Technologies.

Submitted invalidity charts must address every limitation of the challenged claim. This may require using more than one prior art reference. InfoGation navigation patent challenge instituted

On April 25, 2025, three weeks after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 8,898,003, owned and asserted by InfoGation Corporation, an NPE. The '003 patent is generally directed to displaying maps on GPS receivers. It is currently being asserted against TomTom, Nissan, Mazda, and Hyundai. It was also previously asserted against Volvo, Toyota, Honda, BMW, and Ford.

$2,000 awarded for KEEEX digital fingerprint patent prior art

Unified is pleased to announce PATROLL crowdsourcing contest winners, Umesh Kumar and Pankaj Negi, who split an award of $2,000 for their prior art submissions on U.S. Patent 10,218,714, owned by KEEEX, an NPE. The '714 patent pertains to methods for verifying the integrity of digital data blocks and accessing them. Specifically, it describes a process that includes searching for a digital fingerprint within a data block, calculating a digital fingerprint by applying a specific function that excludes the bits of any found fingerprint, and verifying the authenticity by comparing the found fingerprint with the calculated one.

We would also like to thank the dozens of other high-quality submissions that were made on this patent. Unified Files Amicus for En Banc Review of Kroy IP Holdings v. Groupon in Fed. Cir.

On April 25, 2025, Unified filed an amicus brief in support of Groupon's combined petition for panel rehearing and rehearing en banc on whether collateral estoppel applies to claims with immaterial differences from those found obvious in PTAB proceedings.
