Unified Challenges CRFD Research / Marathon ($MARA) Owned Patent

On October 25, Unified Patents filed an Inter-Partes Review (IPR) against patent owner CRFD Research (CRFD) to protect the Content Delivery Zone from NPE activity. CRFD is a subsidiary of the Marathon Patent Group ($MARA). According to Marathon, CRFD "enables seamless synchronization of data between wireless devices, desktops, laptops, tablets, e-readers and servers." (Linked here)

In early 2014, CRFD filed patent infringement cases against 12 companies. On May 6th CRFD entered into a patent license agreement with RPX ($RPXC) in which it has been reported RPX provided monetary compensation for a license. (Linked here)

Unified believes that the prior art used in its October 25th IPR shows that CRFD's patent, U.S. Pat. No. 7,191,233 ('233 patent), should never have issued many of its claims. Unified's IPR challenges claims 1-6, 8-11, 13-15, 23-25, 29-31, and 34 of the '233 patent. A copy of the filing can be found below.
