On October 14, 2015, Unified Patents ("Unified") petitioned for inter partes review (IPR) against U.S. Patent 8,640,183, owned and asserted by Convergent Media Solutions, LLC ("CMS"), an entity reported to be controlled by Acacia Research (@Acacia_Research), to protect content delivery technologies. To date, CMS has filed four cases against content delivery companies and asserted multiple similar related patents. In those cases, CMS claims its patents cover streaming online video services. Unified independently petitioned for IPR challenging claims 1-5, 16, 18, 24-26, 32-38, 40-42, 49, 51-53, 55, and 58-61. A copy of the filing can be found below.
