OPAL & ASSURE: Benefits of Membership
Unified's OPAL (Objective PAtent Landscape) and ASSURE (A Standard SUbmission REpository) reports were designed to address asymmetries in the licensing of standard essential patents and to create a more fair and transparent patent licensing process around some of the core patents supporting these next waves of consumer technology growth.
Unified has published OPAL and ASSURE reports for the new Video Codec Zone which provides a comprehensive analysis of standard essential patents and technical specifications for the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC or H.265) standard developed by the Joint Collaborative Team on Video Coding (JCT-VC).
As with Unified’s other zones, small companies join for free, while larger ones pay yearly subscriptions to help deter asymmetric behavior in specific technology areas. Unified has launched the new Video Codec Zone with more than 100 companies, with many more expected to join

Entity type / Industry filters added to litigation search
Unified Patents recently added Entity type and Industry search filters to its District Court litigation database. Using the Entity Type filter, users can quickly identify whether a district court case involves an NPE, University, or Operating Company. For NPE litigants, users can further identify whether the entity is a Patent Assertion Entity (PAE), Small / Medium size entity (SME), or an individual.
The district court litigation can be accessed by logging into the Portal and selecting "Litigation - Case List" from the left-side navigation bar. Visit our website for more information about Unified Patents or check out our Portal and begin your research today.
Sankey chart added to PTAB disputes
The “Status & Phase” view for post-grant proceedings in Unified’s Portal has been updated with a new Sankey chart. Now when a user selects the “Status & Phase” view they will be able to easily visualize the current status and outcome of all currently pending or terminated cases. This analytics tool may be used in conjunction with the advanced filter options provided on the PTAB search to analyze a specific subset of post-grant proceedings or PTAB litigation overall.
The Status & Phase tool can be accessed by logging into the Portal and selecting “Status & Phase” from the left-side navigation bar (under the “PTAB Analytics” menu). By default, the chart will include all post-grant proceedings, however, users may narrow the search by adding additional filters. To download the cases pictured in the Status & Phase view, select the “Case List” tab above the chart to view the search results and then select “Export All Pages as CSV.”
