NexGen semiconductor controller patent found invalid

On August 28, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a final rejection of challenged claims 1, 5-7, and 13 of U.S. Patent 8,278,855 owned and asserted by NexGen Control Systems, LLC, an NPE. The '855 patent generally relates to control systems for electric motors. The patent was asserted against Infineon and NXP.

MDSP Technologies navigation patent found invalid

On August 26, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) issued a notice of intent to issue a reexamination certificate cancelling all claims of U.S. Patent 9,239,376, owned and asserted by MDSP Technologies LLC. The ‘376 patent relates to determining the position and acceleration of a mobile device using doppler aided inertial navigation. It had been asserted against Google, Apple, Samsung, Garmin, and TomTom.

$2,000 for VDPP 2D/3D patent prior art

Unified Patents added a new PATROLL contest, with a $2,000 cash prize, seeking prior art on claim 1 of U.S. Patent 10,021,380, owned by VDPP, LLC, an NPE. This patent relates to a system named 3Deeps, designed to convert 2D (single image) motion pictures into a format that gives the visual effect of three dimensions when viewed through specialized glasses known as 3Deeps Filter Spectacles. The invention improves upon existing 3D viewing technologies by utilizing multiple layers of electronically controlled variable tint materials in constructing the spectacles' lenses for faster transition times. It has been asserted against over 50 companies including Amazon, Roku, Dell, Resideo, Mercedes-Benz, MediaTek, Lenovo, TP-Link, Qualcomm, and others.

Bill Ramey/AiPi entity, Stasit, smartphone patent found invalid

On August 22, 2024, the CRU issued a Notice of Intent to issue a reexamination certificate canceling all claims of U.S. Patent 8,855,723, owned and asserted by Stasit, LLC, an NPE and Bill Ramey/AiPi entity. The ‘723 patent is directed to smartphones that can mask notifications of incoming calls and text messages for certain unauthorized numbers during certain times and only logging a record of those temporally unauthorized communications on a password protected log, while allowing incoming communications from authorized numbers to be handled normally (regular notification and logging on the general log). The ‘723 patent was the sole patent asserted against Apple, Meta Platforms, Google, LG, Samsung, and HTC.

GenghisComm 4G/5G patent found invalid

On August 21, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a final rejection of all the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 10,200,227, owned by GenghisComm Holdings, LLC, an NPE. The ’227 patent relates to OFDM wireless communication networks. It has been asserted against 4G/5G devices from many tech and automotive companies, including Continental Automotive, TCL Communication, and Toyota.
